Prototype yacht with trimaran hull and rigid sails of fiber-reinforced plastic is called Planesail, and was devised by J.Walker; 24-ft boat sails backwards and forwards, and can be driven like car; concept is built round self-trimming rigid-sail rig, aerodynamically designed and wind-tunnel tested; lateral stability and windward force requirement are provided for by twin-V-foils under floats; these foils provide righting moment which balances overturning moment, and their angle of attack is adjusted by conventional steering wheel; fixed fins aft complete arrangement; construction of sails is described; photograph of yacht is included.
