Empirical method presented; general method of summing crippling loads of component elements of stiffener and then dividing by summation of elemental areas to obtain crippling stress, is discussed in several texts; however, enough test data have not been available heretofore to establish general empirical curves for predicting strength of any stiffener or stiffened panel of reasonable proportions.
