Merlin XX differs from earlier types chiefly in its 2-speed supercharger, which makes it slightly longer than before; its rated output of 1260 hp compares with rated 890 hp of Merlin I in 1936; Merlin series are 12-cyl upright 60° Vee liquid cooled engines, bore 5.4 in., stroke 6 in.
