1400 50-ton hopper cars of open hearth steel construction, built by American Car and Foundry Co; cars, of conventional riveted design with arched ends, have light weight of 41,800 lb and stenciled capacity of 100,000 lb, although 128,000 lb can be handled without exceeding load limit of four 5 1/2-in. by 10-in. axles; cars carried on Scullin 4-wheel trucks; principal dimensions and weights given in table.
