Scott system employs set of inertial rolls with fixed load that serves as external loading to absorb power output of automobile; ACID (Acceleration, Cruise, Idle and Deceleration) places modes of operation in order of decreasing importance as established in seven-mode federal cycle; analytical system consists of flame ionization analyzer for hydrocarbons and nondispersive infrared analyzers for carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide; use of units at system of state-operated safety inspection stations for motor vehicles in New Jersey.
