In automotive industry, great use is made of spring rate and damping characteristics of rubber parts to isolate and absorb unwanted vibrations; elements of dynamic response in automobiles are explained using model in which car body is main mass/spring system and powerplant is absorber (for shake control); it is suggested that improvements and standardization in rate measurements of automotive rubber parts will improve absorber control, absorber/isolation compromise, and control of structural resonances.
