Test facility at Ford Motor Co duplicates random road profile in laboratory fatigue testing of complete vehicle structure; road simulated endurance test can be conducted using magnetic tape command to electrohydraulic shakers; complete test program of vehicle includes recording random road inputs to vehicle suspension, duplication of these random inputs with facility to effect fatigue test evaluation of vehicle structure, and validation of test by power spectral density and peak level counting techniques; acceptable correlation between laboratory and proving ground fatigue failures has been obtained; testing on proving ground to equivalent of 500,000 customer mi can be accumulated in 40 mo.
