Long life lithium greases which contain oxidation inhibitors are used in Japanese National Railways as roller bearing lubricant of traction motors to elongate lubrication interval; oxidation inhibitors of 2,6-di-tert-butyl-p-cresol diphenylamine and phenyl-& alpha;-naphthylamine were used in study as additives of lubricating greases, and depletion of these additives under conditions of laboratory thermal degradation test, functional life test and field test has been observed by infrared spectroscopy.
