Measurements and first-order calculations for manned spar buoy FLIP (floating instrument platform), used as support for oceanographic instrumentation; vessel is towed to and from station in horizontal attitude, then brought to vertical position in which bow section becomes superstructure containing working and living space; wave pressure and three components of acceleration were recorded over 1 mo period; within substantial tolerances, observed and calculated frequency-response ratios are in agreement; observations of damping of transient motions are also reported.
