Integrated, coordinated rail-highway-water container service combined flexibility and convenience of local short-haul trucking with speed, dependability and low cost of long-haul rail transportation; greater safety, greater protection, less handling, less loss from pilferage, and reduced export packing; 300-cu ft rigid-type container, was one of earliest containers developed; made of steel, or wood and steel construction, they come in various sizes; 20-ft trailer containers are being used in shipments to Italy, Australia, Brazil, Panama, Belgium, Holland, England, Spain, France, Switzerland and Japan; 35 ft trailer containers are being used in shipments to Puerto Rico and Italy, and 40 ft containers are being used in shipments to France, Sweden, and Puerto Rico.
