Description of novel system for fully integrated terminal handling and shipboard stowage of containers, devised by P.Meeusen, Dutch engineer; essential feature of Meco system is extensive use of conveyors both aboard ship and in terminal area; Meco ship is likened to tanker both in its construction and in method utilized for "pumping" cargo in and out of holds; this action is effected by elevators and conveyors; containers are cleared from area (or brought into position) by crane, etc; ship and terminal arrangement diagrams are included.
