Boom loading characteristics and resultant modes of vehicle instability are described for man carrying aerial lifts designed and equipped for stand and cable fairing; successful and safe operation depends on aerial lift unit being designed to withstand imposed loads and being mounted on chassis of adequate size and strength; it is also dependent upon properly designed and located cable placing components, reel carriers, bullwheel, and like, so that axle load distributions are safe at highway speeds and under construction conditions; components that provide smooth strand or cable payout under controlled conditions are necessary.
