Immediate application of findings from research on break-away sign supports has resulted in lives being saved in collisions of out-of-control vehicles with sign posts on Interstate Highways of Texas; in most accidents occurring after modification of posts, virtually no injuries and only very minor damage to vehicles were experienced; research has dealt with both braced and unbraced supports involving pipe and WF-beam materials and wood posts as used in some other states; after preliminary experimentation efforts have centered on cantilver design involving WF-beam.
