In one application, hologram of wavefront from mirror is made with pulsed laser and then used in place of mirror for Foucault knife-edge testing; this allows mirror to be tested in its working environment; in second application, hologram is made in same manner, but is used in common path interferometer where reconstructed point image of mirror is interfered against point source to show difference between mirror surface and reference sphere.
