Life boat was built by William Osborne, Littlehampton, for Royal National Life-boat Institution; water ballast tank beneath engines automatically fills when taking water, and if boat should capsize 2 3/4 tons of water are transferred into righting tank on port side; water passes through four trunks, or pipes, in each of which is fitted valve designed to open when boat is heeled over to angle of about 110°; two Gardner diesel engines, each developing 110 bhp at 1300 rpm, drive twin propellers; length 48 ft 6 in., beam 14 ft, draft 4 ft, displacement 28 tons, speed 9 knots; arrangement diagram.
