Locomotives range from 45 hp to 3530 hp; electric transmission is being used extensively; truck design is directed towards similar truck for both diesel and electric locomotives; body frames were standardized; series CC 7200 of 2200 kw (2650 hp) is being developed by French National Railway System to reduce costs and maintenance charges.
