First high-speed locomotive of French National Railways equipped with preset speed system (dispositif de vitesse imposee) of S.A. des Ateliers de Secheron, Geneva, is C-C No. 40103, one of class of four locomotives designed for operation on four principal mainline electrification systems of Europe; driver's speed selector mounted above ordinary controller handwheel resembles radio receiver with horizontal tuning scale, and is adjusted by turning knob which traverses cursor across speed graduations; switch is provided for transferring to manual control; operation of apparatus is described for specific Paris to Brussels run.
