In system, developed by E.R.F. Ltd, Sun Works, Sandbach, Cheshire, England, air can be exhausted from chamber either by opening valve in supply line to actuator, to apply brakes for parking vehicle, or by failure in application system that prevents maintenance of normal air pressure; illustration shows diagrammatically fail-safe braking system for E.R.F. tractor of 30 to 32 ton articulated vehicle; system has three independent pneumatic circuits two of which supply service brakes, and third is for emergency braking and parking; air reservoir is installed in each circuit.
