Study of bolt stresses as affected by diameter of bolt, intervals of bolt holes, and diameter of bolt hole in fishplate; stresses in rail, bolt, and fishplate; recommendations are for 19 mm high tension or heat treated rail joint bolt with 23 mm holes in rails and 24 mm holes in fishplates, bolt hole intervals being 127 mm with first hole 60.5 mm from rail end.
