Upon finding marine type terry cloth filters inadequate for removing all of oil from highly emulsified reciprocating engine condensate, U S Maritime Commission undertook investigation to procure oil-free condensate for use in marine power installations; filters in other services adapted for marine use, and new marine filtering systems were developed; all marine filtration systems investigated by Commission are reviewed.
