Two new types of General Motors locomotives, domestic 2400-hp heavy duty freight unit and 800-hp export unit, are to be produced at Electro-Motive Division; SD-24, powered by new turbocharged 567-D engine, was developed to haul present heavy tonnage trains faster; export model GA-8 combines light weight, low cost and ability to handle freight and passenger trains, and switching assignments.
