Parachute design problem and design criteria; three main methods of approach: English Electric Thunderbird test vehicle, Bristol Bobbin, and unconventional approach by Weapons Research Establishment, Woomera, South Australia; Irving system, used successfully, consists of cluster of 6-ribbon parachutes of 3 ft diam followed by reefed 20-ft shaped parachute in nylon; method of reefing.
