Swinging vibrations frequently observed in multiple-engine ships, especially light weight shallow river vessels, are due mainly to force impulse from motors and propellers; means of synchronization of engines for prevention of oscillations discussed, with special reference to parallel-running regulating apparatus with automatic phase angle retardation and additional damping apparatus for obtaining stable parallel running.
