During its first year of service, AiResearch turbocompressor used for cabin pressurization and cabin ventilation of Boeing 707 aircraft established reliability record equal to that of compressor designs in service for 10 yr; design and development program for machine are outlined and data regarding field service experience presented; reliability was obtained using conventional project organization, procedures, and techniques, with emphasis on thoroughness of engineering design and development process; applicability of procedure to similar programs.
