Details of automatic astro-navigation equipment developed by Kollsman; when used in aircraft, auto-astro provides 2 primary outputs; it allows navigator to correct his knowledge of position and indicates accurately true heading of aircraft; both outputs are independent of errors cumulative with time, which are characteristic of dead-reckoning navigation such as Doppler or inertial navigation; system is composed of astro tracker, control computer and indicator, and amplifier unit; schematic diagram of system tracking mode.
