Significant improvements in performance can be obtained if automatic flight control system is given task of improving handling qualities of basic aircraft and augmenting damping of flexible airframe; summary of data on passenger comfort obtained from motion simulators, routine airline operations, and military flight test data; passenger-comfort boundary that covers frequency range of .2-100 cps is defined; criteria for evaluating alleviation of structural fatigue are determined; recommendations made.
