Criteria for optimum sizing of accumulator, used in aircraft, missile, and space vehicle systems, can be established by relating work capacity to volume and weight as function of accumulator pressure ratio, using realistic values of ratio of specific heats; relationships are derived and plotted to provide accurate method of sizing accumulator; concept of maximum energy/unit of size will serve as design guide to seek more optimum designs in components and systems.
