Phenomena resulting in superbooms, including flight-path geometry change, speed increase near cutoff mach number, etc; superboom conditions may occur over small localized areas on ground during any accelerated portion of flight of aircraft; experiments conducted under carefully controlled conditions in order to confirm existence of predicted ground-pressure distributions and to study effects of variables indicated; test arrangements described; experimental work is summarized and, where possible, compared with available theory.
