Five possible configurations to satisfy requirements of VTOL with speed approaching Mach 1 are shown; they are X-14 jet lift, SC-1 lift engine, XV-6A (P-1127) lift/thrust, XV-4A Hummingbird jet ejector, and XV-5A lift fan; current Army program is directed towards providing technical information which will ultimately lead to development of service surveillance aircraft; solutions are still required in areas of technical research and operational analysis.
