Problems which must be solved by airframe propulsion designer to obtain high thrust-to-weight ratio lift engine installation include starting, air induction, exhaust, fire protection, and VTO control; thrust-to-weight ratio degradation from bare engine to final installation is shown for typical example; some installation requirements which must also be considered, are noted.
