Supersonic EWR Sud VJ 101C aircraft, which has been built by firms of Bolkow, Heinkel and Messerschmitt, is powered by 6 Rolls-Royce RB 145 turbojet engines; 2 engines are mounted vertically in fuselage behind cockpit to provide lift thrust, and other 4 are in wingtip pods which swivel to provide both lift thrust and thrust for forward (or backward) propulsion; pod swiveling design is based on hollow shaft passing through pod between 2 engines; engines are started hydraulically, with same hydraulic lines as already exist for hydraulic pumps, and pod is swiveled by hydraulic jack.
