Aircraft envisaged is 125,000-150,000-lb, high speed transport vehicle capable of carrying substantial payload over 1200 nautical mi range; its size presents questions of control requirements and points up uncertainty of extrapolation of control requirements from tests of smaller V/STOL tested to date; examination of powerplant possibilities and combinations; powerplant performance characteristics, stability and control at or near hover, and transition; engine ingestion, disk loadings, ground impingement, noise, vulnerability, and configuration possibilities are considered.
