At Chevrolet Motor Div, Toledo, Ohio, laboratory test procedure was developed duplicating load and speed conditions transmission is subjected to during actual service conditions; simultaneous recordings of signals representing vehicle speed, engine throttle position, and transmission operating range are made on single track magnetic tape during proving ground transmission road test; frequency modulation is used to filter out signals during playback in laboratory; signals control engine and driving and absorbing dynamometers to reproduce road test.
