Opening of lock gates to allow ship passage has resulted in infiltration of salt, from entering seawater, through to fresh water-bearing clay strata; following successful results obtained in trials with compressed air, Rotterdam Harbor authorities are now building compressor station which will be equipped with battery of 5 Atlas Copco AB 43 l-p stationary compressors which will operate permanent bubbler curtain at entrance to Petroleum Harbor; curtain will keep sand and silt from River Maas from entering harbor which until now has had to be dredged regularly.
