Design features of Caterpillar Tractor Co LVDS-1100 and LDS-750 new extremely light weight, 4-cycle diesels developed for Army Tank-Automotive Command and built entirely of aluminum; engines weigh 4.6 and 4.3 lb/hp respectively; after cooled version at 3.6 lb/hp; governed full load ratings are 580 bhp at 2200 rpm and 425 bhp at 2400 rpm, respectively.
