Number of shipping companies are known to be investigating case for operating auxiliary diesel engines on same fuel oil as that used in main engine; although few ships have such engines operating on cheaper fuel, little information has been disclosed on problems and solutions; successful results obtained with Allen 4-stroke engines in Elder Dempster Lines 9397 gross ton cargo liner Eboe, using new type Shell oil, are reported; main engine is Scott-Doxford unit burning heavy oil of about 1500 sec Redwood No. 1 at 100 F.
