Twin screw geared turbine vessel Avalon, new ship for British Railways' night service between Harwich and Hook of Holland, was built by A.Stephen and Sons; it is 2-class ship with space for 750 passengers, 277 cabins providing sleeping berths for some 600; length oa 405 ft, molded breadth 57 ft 6 in., mean loaded draft 15 ft 9 in., gross 6720 tons; 2 steam turbines of Pametrada design give 14,500 shp; plan.
