In 1961 cooperative deepsea fishing enterprise Gemeinwirtschaftliche Hochseefischerei G.m.b.H. of Bremerhaven, Germany, took delivery of combined trawling and fish processing ships Heinrich Kern and Hans Boeckler from Luebecker Flender-Werke A.G.; particulars of both are length oa 248 ft 4 in., breadth molded 37 ft 9 in., design draft 15 ft 5 in., gross 1600 tons; selection of diesel electric propulsion allowed placing of machinery partly at forward end and partly at after end, leaving best part of hull space for payload; plan.
