Designed as mothership for Russian trawler fleets, Vitus Bering is second of series of 4 similar ships built by Burmeister and Wain, Copenhagen, to order of V/O Sudoimport, Moscow; length bp 91 m, breadth 16 m, depth to upper deck 8.6 m, draft about 5.5 m, dw 2600 tons; 6-cyl B and W diesel engine develops 3530 ihp at 200 rpm.
