Two supersonic transport (SST) configurations were investigated, having design cruise Mach number of 3.0, with respect to work load between SST pilots and air-traffic controller; test consisted of simulated arrivals and departures under instrument flight rule (IFR) conditions in New York terminal area under today's peak-traffic conditions while using current ATC procedures and equipment; tests revealed need for command guidance carefully planned turns and accelerations, and piloting displays in SST operations.
