Equipment was designed to be added or retrofitted to Boeing 707/720 airplanes to enable low approach and automatic landings to be made under conditions of low visibility as part of regular airline operations; major elements of system such as autopilot, yaw damper, approach and flare couplers and auto-throttle system are described in relation to their effects on performance and safety; details of monitoring and automatic test subsystems and test procedures used to evaluate system design.
