Purpose of huge test frame for supersonic aircraft at Farnsborough, Hampshire, is to apply loads, both static and fatigue, to simulate aircraft flight, take-off and landing conditions; frame consists of prestressed concrete overhead structure carrying movable straining bridges, and provision is also made for heating aircraft surfaces; parallel side frames support two horizontal beams 204 ft long and 43 ft above test frame floor; arrangement is shown in diagrams.
