Aircraft on antisubmarine warfare (ASW) mission needs accurate navigation system capable of getting aircraft to its operational area and permitting detection and localization of submarine target using short-range acoustic sensors in continually moving sea environment; to accomplish these tasks, doppler, inertial, dead reckoning air mass information, and long-range navigation (Loran) are channeled into digital computer, which uses information to maintain aircraft's position in geocentric latitude and longitude and in tactical x-y system; description of relationship of pilot, navigation, and tactical coordinator and computer.
