Extensive effort for all-new turbine-powered executive transport was undertaken in 1962 by Beech Aircraft Corp; complete design analysis and mockup were made of 12,500-lb airplane, identified as Model 120; Canadian Pratt and Whitney and Beech negotiated agreement to modify basic Queen Air 80 as test bed for PT6 engine; success of test bed led to eventual development of King Air.
