Paper describes principal features of Boeing variable-sweep supersonic transport and compares aircraft's performance with that of low aspect ratio supersonic transport; where comparisons are made between Boeing 733 SST and BAC-Sud Concorde, performance of American airliner relates to earliest version of aircraft while characteristics of Anglo-French airliner are based on those of small early version of aircraft; it is shown that concept of variable sweep is based on sound fundamental aerodynamic, performance and operational advantages when applied to supersonic transport design.
