Successful use of public benefits of air transportation at supersonic speeds will require attainment of many goals; requisites categorized and examined in relation to propulsion system include needs of reliability, maintainability, operational flexibility, salability, and profitability; interaction and accumulative effect of growth in propulsion system performance, both thermodynamic and mechanical, can have major influence on earnings and useful life of SST.
