Present status of BAC-Sud Aviation Concorde project and United States Supersonic Transport Program is summarized with emphasis on technical, economical and psychological problems associated with development and operation, and on features and characteristics of three designs by BAC-Sud Aviation, Boeing and Lockheed; differences in American design concepts, namely, application of variable sweep with heavy wing loading and fixed sharp delta with light wing loading, are examined; it appears that Mach 2.2 Concorde, though progress is slow, is likely to lead Mach 3 American SST by few years.
