Purpose of P3A program was to demonstrate fatigue characteristics of wing and main landing gears under simulated flight-by-flight loading spectrum that represented planned service life of model; flight-by-flight test loading spectrum comprising 7500 flight hours was constructed with emphasis on air-ground-air transitions that are provided during flight-by-flight simulation and that adversely affect fatigue life; test methods devised provided automated loading system that faithfully duplicated service conditions on specimen in relatively short test-time span with small operating crew; applicability of methods to supersonic aircraft testing.
