Study is being carried out by Construction Branch of Canadian Dept of Transport to formulate new pavement design techniques which will meet increasing demand of higher loads, tire pressures and operational velocities of aircraft; roughness of flexible and rigid pavement structures was measured by combination of surveyor's level, British developed profilometer and skid resistance tester and subjective evaluation for structural continuity by construction engineers; data obtained is shown together with comparison of existing construction specifications; effect of pavement roughness on DC-8 aircraft was evaluated by instrumenting undercarriage and installing center of gravity and nose accelerometers; results obtained.
