Laboratory and field tests were conducted on sewn panels of Tl, No. 8 cotton duck, vinyl-coated membrane, two types of fastener joints, and one type of adhesive joint to determine their performance and suitability when membrane is placed directly on soil subgrades of pioneer-type runways to form waterproof and dustproof surface for operations of U S Army fixed-wing aircraft; weight, tensile and tearing strengths, elongation, permeability, effects of weathering, and resistance to flame, heat, cold, and fuel spillage were determined for membrane.
